Tianjin Municipality is a metropolis located in northeastern China and one of the five national central cities of China, with a total municipal population of 15,170,000(2014). It is under direct administration of the central government as one of the four direct-controlled municipalities in China .

Tianjin is the largest coastal city in northern China and borders Hebei Province and Beijing, bounded to the east by the Bohai Gulf portion of the Yellow Sea. Tianjin Binhai International airport and railway network linked Tianjin with cities in China and the world. The inter-city trains take only 30 min between Beijing and Tianjin.

 

Industry and economy

 

Tianjin is part of the Bohai Economic Rim and a hub city for international shipping and logistics, modern manufacturing and research and development. Tianjin pillar industries are electronic information technology, automotive, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, metallurgy and petrochemicals industries. Globalization and opening up of the economy to the rest of the world have brought about remarkable benefits to the economic growth of Tianjin. Tianjin's GDP reached 1.572 trillion yuan in 2014, an increase of 10.0 percent over 2013. The city of Tianjin recorded China's highest per-capita GDP with USD17,388, followed by Beijing and Shanghai.

Culture  

 

People from Tianjin speak Mandarin, some speak the Tianjin dialect of Mandarin. Tianjin is a base of traditional opera and also famous for its stand up comedy and comedians, it’s center for the art of Xiangsheng. The city is well known for its traditional cuisine delicacies and street building reflected the development and combination of Chinese and foreign style.

Tianjin features a monsoon-influenced four-season climate, typical of East Asia, with cold, windy, dry winters and hot, humid summers, due to the monsoon. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from −3.5 °C (25.7 °F) in January to 26.6 °C (79.9 °F) in July, with an annual mean of 12.66 °C (54.8 °F).
