As one of institutions of higher education which are the earliest to establish modern art education in China, our Arts and Clothing School has a long history of over 30 years since the year of 1984. The school is nationally renowned and has cultivated a large number of professionals. Currently the school has seven undergraduate programs or major fields including Clothing and Fashion Design, Visual Communication Design, Environment Design, Clothing Design and Engineering, Arts and crafts, Product Design and Fashion Performing. The school has master’s degree programs of Design Science first-level discipline and Art Major. The total number of teaching staff is 139. The structure of college teachers is reasonable, and teachers are experienced. Teachers with professional senior title of arts and design major account for 35% of all teachers. There are around 300 undergraduates and about 180 graduates on campus. In terms of teaching, relying on the preponderant disciplines of Tianjin Polytechnic University and combining the development trend of international art education and the demand characteristics for design talents in China, design majors of the college continue to study new theories, new science, new directions to strengthen the integration between arts and science and between theory and practice. Focus has been paid on the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quality and innovation ability.

Under Arts and Fashion School there are four practical teaching institutions including costume technology laboratory, costume CAD/CAM laboratory, art CAD laboratory and art design experiment center. Now there are 1341 sets/pieces of teaching equipments, of which the total value of fixed assets is RMB 13.6 million yuan. The total area of practical teaching is 7200 square meters. Art and design practical teaching base is able to meet the practical teaching demand for 3000 arts undergraduates and graduates of the 7 majors of our school. 21 practical teaching courses, such as Copper Forging, Sculpture, Lacquer Art, Ceramic Art, Inkjet, Fiber and Photography, have been set up to satisfy students’ needs for the practical teaching processes of personalized creation, graduation field work and graduation project, etc. In China, it is a comprehensive practical teaching demonstration base of art and design with distinctive features and obvious advantages.

The teaching quality of the school has been recognized in the industry. Many graduates became nationally famous entrepreneurs, chief designer for well-known clothing brands and models. In recent years, employment rate of our graduates has remained over 95%, and a trend of student entrepreneurship has occurred.
