• School profiles

The School of Electronics and Information Engineering derived from the Department of Automation of the Tianjin Institute of Textile Science and Technology, which founded in 1980. It was separated as a self-governed school in December 2000, and adopted its present name in March 2011.   The discipline of the Information and Communication Engineering in the school was rated as one of the ‘Distinguished Disciplines’ in Tianjin educational system. Meanwhile the Communication and Information Systems has been selected as one of the ‘Highest Priority Disciplines of Tianjin’. The school holds complete laboratories, such as the High-Power LED Engineering Research Center (affiliated with the Ministry of Education), Tianjin Semiconductor Lighting Technology Center and Electronic Information Research Center and so on. Until now, the school has grown to an enrollment of 104 staff members (38 of them hold the sub-senior professional title or above). Among of whom, two have been included as the ‘The Thousand Talents Project’ of Tianjin; Two have been approved by the ‘The Thousand Youth Talents Project’ of Tianjin and the ‘The Thousand Foreign Experts Project’, respectively; three are the distinguished professors; and two won the first level of ‘131 Innovative Talents Cultivation Project’. In addition, there are 5 doctoral tutors and 28 master tutors.

The school has established 5 undergraduate programs including Electronics Information Engineering, Communications Engineering, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Electronic Science and Technology and Biomedical Engineering, wherein the Communications Engineering is one of the Tianjin brand programs. It has been authorized as an educational program cooperated with the University Of Wollongong (UOW), Australia. Electronics Information Engineering was elected to Outstanding Engineer Plans. The school also has one doctoral program of the second-level discipline (Materials Testing Technology and Systems), three master programs of the first-level disciplines(Information and Communication Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Biomedical Engineering), as well as three engineering master programs (Electronics and Communication Engineering, Integrated Circuit Engineering and Biomedical Engineering). At present, there are more than 2300 students are enrolled, composed with 2075 undergraduate students and 285 graduate students.‍‍‍‍‍‍

For a long time, with the spirit of Tianjin Polytechnic University school motto, the school established the standards of ‘education is origin’, ‘serving for the regional economy’ and ‘cultivating innovative and practical talented person’, as well as formed the school-running characteristics of ‘possessing the solid knowledge, adapting to a wide application, pursuing higher criterion, and appreciating the practical abilities’. As a consequence, the school aim to developing in a wide range of research areas, such as Modern Communication Network and Systems, Modern Communication Technology and Application, Optical Information Processing and Transmission, Electronic Instruments and Equipment Design, Computer Monitor and Control, Modern Sensor technology development and application, digital information processing and Transmission, Semiconductor Device Design and Process, Large Scale Integrated Circuit Design, High-power Semiconductor Lighting Application System, and Medical Signal Processing and Instrument etc. The school actively promotes the international cooperation and exchanges. We have set up multiple cooperation programs with the schools and research institutions in Britain, South Korea, New Zealand and Singapore.

All the staff members in the school will carry forward the wording styles of ‘unity, pragmatic, efficient, innovation, development’ and aim to assume leadership on the relevant disciplines of schools in Tianjin.
